Can I Belong Without Hiding Who I Am?

By Real Ray C on

Sometimes socializing feels like a performance. I’m watching my voice, my facial expressions, and every word I say. By the time I leave, I’m completely drained. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m not the problem. Maybe I’ve been trying to meet expectations that don’t fit me. Belonging shouldn’t require hiding every part of myself. I’m learning to take breaks, force eye contact less, and look for people who welcome different ways of communicating. I want to feel accepted without constantly correcting myself. What helps you feel safe enough to unmask and be yourself?
