The day i tried to impress my girlfriend with cooking (and accidentally invented a new meal)
By JugglingNothing on
Cooking can be fun if you actually know how to cook.
Back when my wife was still just my girlfriend, she came over to my tiny apartment for dinner. I thought, “Perfect chance to prove I’m boyfriend-of-the-year material. I’ll cook something amazing.”
In my head, it was going to be a romantic, restaurant-worthy meal. In reality? I decided to make spaghetti and an omelette… in the same pan. Don’t ask me why I thought I was being “creative” and “fusion-y.” Spoiler: I was not.
The result? Overcooked pasta tangled in scrambled eggs, all drowned in soy sauce because I ran out of salt halfway through. It looked like something you’d find in a college dorm fridge at 3 a.m. after a party. But I plated it up with the confidence of a Michelin-star chef.
She took one bite, paused, and said, “Wow… this is… different.”
Translation: “What on earth did you just feed me?” 😂
Fast forward she still married me. But to this day, whenever I get a little too confident in the kitchen, she’ll smirk and ask if I’m making my “signature spaghetti omelette.”
👉 Sometimes it’s not the food that wins hearts, but the effort😂

Okay, hear me out… I’m actually tempted to try reinventing the spaghetti omelette properly this time. Not the chaotic “scrambled egg pasta drowned in soy sauce” version, but like—actually planned. Perhaps use fettuccine, whip the eggs like a real Italian frittata, add some herbs and cheese, and make it look intentional. Who knows? Maybe 10 years from now, people will be calling it a TikTok food trend, and I’ll have accidentally been ahead of my time 😂.
But until that happens, I promise I’m sticking to real recipes and leaving the “fusion disasters” in the past. My wife deserves edible meals now, not experiments. 😅
- Charlotte: “The Experimental Kitchen” 😂 That’s actually such a good name for a restaurant concept. Just don’t expect repeat customers unless it comes with a side of Pepto-Bismol.
- JugglingNothing: Ray, I’d host that dinner party proudly. We could call it “The Experimental Kitchen.” Entry fee: a strong stomach.
- Eli Mercer: Ray, honestly, I’d go just to witness that chaos. We’d need a brave soul to volunteer as taste-tester though. Any takers? 😂
- Real Ray C: “Defence weapons” 🤣 That’s gold. Imagine if we combined our cooking fails: my steak, your cookies, Miles’ spaghetti omelette. It’d be the worst dinner party in history but the best story to tell.
- Charlotte: Eli, I’m dying at “defence weapons.” 😂 I love how these kitchen fails become legends in relationships. Honestly, the disaster meals end up being way more memorable than the perfect ones.
- JugglingNothing: Charlotte, undercooked chicken is next-level bravery 😂 At least my creation was edible! I swear, though, there’s something about cooking for someone you like that makes your brain throw logic out the window.
- Eli Mercer: This is too relatable. I once thought I could bake cookies without measuring anything because “how hard could it be?” Ended up with rock-hard chocolate blobs. My friend still calls them “Eli’s defence weapons.” So yeah, I get why “signature spaghetti omelette” stuck around 😅.
- Real Ray C: Bro, I feel this way too hard. I once tried to impress a date by cooking steak… but I didn’t know you had to let it rest. So we basically chewed through shoe leather together. At least your girlfriend could swallow the food 😂. Respect, though—you owned the disaster.
- Charlotte: 😂 Oh my goodness, Miles, I actually laughed out loud at “spaghetti and omelette in the same pan.” Honestly, though, the confidence is what counts. I once served my boyfriend undercooked chicken because I was “sure it was done.” He still teases me years later! Effort goes a long way. ❤️
