The small rice cooking upgrade that fixed my biggest problem

By Charlotte on

For the longest time, I thought I just wasn’t great at cooking rice. No matter what I did, I’d end up with the same issues every few days slightly burnt rice stuck to the bottom, random wet patches near the top, or rice that somehow felt both dry and mushy at the same time. I kept changing water ratios, thinking that was the problem. Turns out, the bigger issue was the pot itself. I switched from a really thin, lightweight pot to a heavier triply cooker with a thicker base, and the difference was immediate. The heat spreads more evenly, so the rice cooks consistently instead of getting blasted from the bottom while the top struggles to catch up. What surprised me most is that I didn’t suddenly need some complicated technique after that. I still rinse the rice properly. I still use roughly the same amount of water. And the biggest thing? I let the rice sit for a few minutes after the heat is off instead of opening the lid immediately. That resting time makes a bigger difference than people think. The steam finishes the job, and the texture settles instead of turning uneven. A lot of rice advice online gets overly technical, but honestly, good rice usually comes down to three things: decent cookware, balanced heat, and patience. Once those line up, everyday rice becomes way more consistent without needing to obsess over every tiny detail.
