I Love Cooking Fish, but Not Smelling It All Night

By Charlotte on

I love fish, but I hate when dinner is over and the entire place still smells like it hours later. The odor can settle into the kitchen, curtains, and furniture, especially after pan-frying. A few things have helped. I open the windows and turn on the range hood before I start cooking. Baking the fish in parchment or a covered dish also seems to contain the smell better. When the weather cooperates, I take salmon or mahi-mahi outside and cook it on the grill. The biggest difference is cleaning right away. I wash the pan and utensils, wipe down the stove, seal the fish scraps, and take the trash outside. I’ve also noticed that fresh fish and careful cooking usually produce less odor than fish that gets overcooked. What’s your best trick for cooking fish without smelling it for the rest of the night?
