Is Google quietly overtaking ChatGPT in the AI space?

By Real Ray C on

Lately, I’ve noticed something interesting in my circle: more people are talking about Google’s AI than ChatGPT.

For the longest time, ChatGPT felt like the default. It dominated conversations, headlines, classrooms, and workplaces. If someone said “AI,” they usually meant ChatGPT. But recently, a lot of my friends especially the more technical ones, have been shifting their attention toward Google’s tools.

I don’t code myself, so I’ll be honest: I’m mostly observing from the outside. But the pattern is hard to ignore. Many of my friends say Google’s AI ecosystem feels more practical for developers and everyday workflows than ChatGPT or even Claude.

ChatGPT still feels incredibly strong at conversation, reasoning, and explaining things clearly. Claude gets praise for thoughtful responses and handling long documents. But Google seems to be playing a different game, less about being the best standalone assistant and more about being the most embedded and scalable AI platform.

I don’t know if this means ChatGPT is “losing” or if this is just the market maturing and splitting into different strengths. But it does feel like Google is catching up fast, and in some areas, especially developer tooling and integration, it might already be ahead.
