Gemini Could Make Apps Less Important
By Real Ray C on
Google is expanding Gemini's ability to connect with third-party services such as OpenTable and other apps. The bigger story isn't the number of integrations. It's what this could do to the way we use software.
Instead of opening several apps, searching for a restaurant, checking availability, buying tickets, and updating your calendar, you could eventually tell Gemini what you want and let it handle several of those steps for you.
That's a major shift.
For decades, we've learned software by learning where buttons and menus are. AI assistants could flip that model around.
Instead of asking, "How do I use this app?" you simply say, "Do this for me."
Google is already moving in that direction, with Gemini gaining capabilities for multi-step tasks and connections to third-party services.
But there's an obvious catch. The more control we give AI over our apps and accounts, the more important privacy, security, and confirmation controls become.
