Apple may make you wait to use its new AI Siri
By Real Ray C on
Apple's new Siri AI is supposed to be AI,e of the biggest changes to Siri in years.
But there's an interesting catch: you might not get to use it immediately.
The latest iOS 27 beta appears to contain infrastructure for a Siri AI waitlist, including dynamic wait-time estimates that Apple can apparently adjust based on demand and capacity. Users could receive a notification when their access is ready.
This isn't completely unexpected. Siri AI already used a waitlist during beta testing, and some developers reported waiting several days for access.
What we don't know yet is how long consumers might have to wait after the public release.
And that's what makes this interesting. AI is changing the definition of what a software update actually is.
In the past, you downloaded an update and the new feature was simply there.
With AI, the software on your phone may only be part of the equation. Models, cloud infrastructure, compute capacity, privacy systems, and staged rollouts can all affect whether a feature is available.
Apple officially says Siri AI will be able to understand personal context, work across apps, understand what's on your screen, and perform more advanced tasks.
That's a big upgrade from the Siri most of us have known.
But if millions of people want to use it at the same time, Apple has to make sure the infrastructure can actually handle that demand.
So I'm curious:
Would you be annoyed if you bought a new iPhone, updated to iOS 27, and then had to join a waitlist for its biggest AI feature?
Or is a staged rollout perfectly reasonable if it means Apple can deliver a more reliable Siri?
