At some point teens and adults should choose what they watch

As a parent, I absolutely believe kids should only watch age appropriate material. Younger children need guidance. They’re still learning how to process what they see, and it’s part of our job to make sure what they’re watching is healthy and suitable for their age.
But I also think there needs to be a point where that control starts to loosen.
As teens get older, especially once they’re adults, they should be able to decide which movies or shows they want to watch. Part of growing up is learning how to make your own choices about media, entertainment, and ideas. If parents keep tightly controlling that well into the teen years or adulthood, it can feel less like guidance and more like censorship.
Personally, I think censorship based purely on religious rules is something that should have been left behind decades ago, at least when it comes to older teens and adults. By that age, people should be trusted to think critically, decide what aligns with their values, and handle content responsibly.
I’m not saying parents shouldn’t talk to their kids about what they’re watching. Those conversations are important. But discussion and guidance are very different from strict control.
