Netflix originals worth watching...Starting with a psychological thriller that completely hooks you

By Eli Mercer on

I’ve been going through Netflix originals lately trying to find shows that actually stick with you after you finish them, not just background binge content. The one that stands out the most for me is You. On the surface, it looks like a story about a quiet bookstore manager who falls for a woman and becomes deeply involved in her life. But very quickly, you realize you’re watching something much darker. Joe Goldberg isn’t just obsessed; he’s dangerous, and the way the story slowly reveals that through his actions and mindset is what makes it so unsettling. What really makes the series work is the perspective. A lot of it is told through Joe’s internal narration, which puts you uncomfortably close to his thoughts. You’re not just watching what he does; you’re hearing how he justifies it to himself in real time. That’s where the tension really builds. Penn Badgley’s performance carries a lot of that weight. The narration, the tone shifts, and the way the character can seem almost normal in one moment and completely detached the next are what keep the show engaging. It’s one of those series where you keep thinking you know where it’s going, but it still manages to pull you deeper into the psychology of it rather than just the plot twists. If you’re into Netflix originals that mix thriller elements with character study, this one is hard to ignore. I’d genuinely rank it near the top of Netflix’s original catalog for psychological drama, especially if you like shows that make you question the person you’re rooting for. What other Netflix originals would you say are in the same league as You?
