I Think I Spend More Time Watching Content About Movies Than Watching Movies

By Charlotte on

Lately I've noticed something kind of funny. I'll open YouTube to watch one trailer for a movie I'm interested in, and an hour later I'm still there watching reviews, cast interviews, ending breakdowns, and "things you missed" videos. Only then do I realize I never actually started the movie. Netflix is still where I go when I want to sit down and watch a great series or film. But YouTube has quietly become part of my movie routine before and after I hit play. If I'm not watching a trailer, I'm looking up spoiler-free reviews to see if something is worth my time. After I finish a show, I'll usually watch discussions, behind-the-scenes clips, or interviews with the cast. Sometimes those videos are just as entertaining as the movie itself. As someone in the U.S., it feels like YouTube has replaced a lot of what entertainment TV and movie magazines used to do. Instead of waiting for a review or feature, everything is available almost instantly, and there are countless creators offering different perspectives. That's why I don't really see YouTube and Netflix as direct competitors. Netflix gives me the story. YouTube keeps the conversation going. Has anyone else noticed they're spending almost as much time watching movie-related content on YouTube as they do watching the actual movies?
