I Finally Saw Christopher Nolan’s *The Odyssey* and I Get the Hype
By Eli Mercer on
I went into The Odyssey expecting a huge Christopher Nolan spectacle, and that's exactly what I got. What surprised me was how much I enjoyed the human side of the story beneath all the battles, monsters, and mythology.
Matt Damon works really well as Odysseus. He doesn't feel like an invincible hero. There's a weariness to him that makes his long journey home feel much more personal.
The scale is easily one of the biggest reasons to see this in a theater. The cinematography, sound, and massive set pieces make this feel like a movie designed for the big screen.
At 2 hours and 52 minutes, it's definitely a commitment, but I never felt completely dragged down by the runtime.
It's not perfect, and I can understand some complaints about the pacing and sound. But overall, I had a great time with it.
Have you seen The Odyssey yet? Did it live up to the hype?
