Choosing contentment in a world that always wants more

By Charlotte on

I’ve noticed something about the human heart; it always seems to want more. More money. More success. More recognition. Even when people already have a lot, the craving doesn’t really stop. It just moves to the next thing.

Over time I’ve watched people push harder and harder to have it all. Sometimes they become aggressive about it. Sometimes they’re willing to do things that don’t sit right just to get ahead.

As a man on the autism spectrum, I’ve always looked at this a little differently. I tend to observe people and notice patterns. One thing I see a lot is how restless people become when they’re constantly chasing the next thing.

For a while I wondered if I was falling behind because I wasn’t chasing the same way. But I realized something important: contentment is not the same as giving up.

I still work hard, and I still have goals. I just choose not to rush through life or compromise my values to get what I don’t have yet.

For me, being able to say “this is enough for now” has brought a lot more peace than constantly trying to keep up with everyone else.

Sometimes moving forward slowly with gratitude is the healthiest way to grow.
