Stop trying to convince people to choose you
By Real Ray C on
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that you cannot force a connection.
For a long time, I thought if I just tried harder, explained myself better, or gave more of my time, people would eventually see my value.
But the truth is, effort only works when it comes from both sides.
You can show up for someone, support them, and care about them deeply, but you cannot make someone appreciate what they are not ready to appreciate.
A big part of growing up is learning to enjoy your own company.
Being alone is not the same as being lonely. Sometimes the quiet moments are where you learn who you are, what you want, and what kind of people you actually want around you.
Another lesson I had to learn was accepting people as they are instead of constantly hoping they would become someone different.
Sometimes we don't fall in love with who a person is. We fall in love with who we imagine they could become.
That expectation is where a lot of disappointment begins.
Accepting someone doesn't mean accepting everything they do. You can understand someone and still decide they are not the right person to have close in your life.
Healthy relationships are not built on chasing, convincing, or constantly proving your worth.
They are built on mutual effort, respect, and the feeling that both people genuinely want to be there.
The right people won't make you feel like you have to earn your place.
And while you're waiting for those connections, don't forget to build a life you enjoy living on your own.
