It’s Labor Day, but somehow a lot of people are still at work.

I was looking at what’s open and closed today, and it got me thinking about how strange Labor Day can feel.
Walmart, Target, CVS, many grocery stores, restaurants, and other retailers are open. Meanwhile, banks, post offices, and the stock market are closed.
I understand that some jobs can’t simply shut down for a holiday, but there’s something ironic about celebrating workers while so many people are spending the day working.
For those who are working today, do you get holiday pay or any extra benefits? And if you have the day off, what are you actually doing with it?
Does Labor Day still feel like a real holiday to you, or has it basically become just another day off for some people?
