I Wasted Years Thinking Walking Wasn't Enough for Weight Loss
By JugglingNothing on
For the longest time, I believed that if I wasn't running, sweating like crazy, or spending an hour in the gym, I wasn't doing "real" exercise.
That mindset kept me stuck because every workout felt too hard to maintain.
Everything changed when I gave myself permission to simply walk.
I started with short morning walks at a comfortable pace. No pressure to hit a certain distance or burn a certain number of calories. My only goal was to show up every day.
What surprised me wasn't just the physical benefits.
Getting outside, breathing fresh air, and starting my day with movement improved my mood and made healthy choices feel a little easier throughout the day.
As the weeks went by, I noticed I had more energy.
Walking became easier, so I naturally walked farther and a little faster. Eventually, I felt ready to add other activities, but I never felt like I had to rush the process.
I think a lot of people with obesity underestimate how powerful a daily walk can be.
It may not look impressive on social media, but it's low impact, accessible for many people, and much easier to stick with than an exercise routine you dread.
For me, consistency mattered far more than intensity.
Sometimes the best workout is simply the one you'll still be doing six months from now.
