How do you rebuild trust after an episode?

By Charlotte on

One of the hardest parts of bipolar disorder is facing what happened during an episode, especially when someone you care about was hurt.
An episode may explain your behavior, but it doesn’t erase the impact. Both things can be true. You can take responsibility without believing that your worst moment defines who you are. A sincere apology matters, but rebuilding trust can take time. The other person may need space, and forgiveness isn’t something we can demand. At the same time, living in endless guilt isn’t healthy. If someone keeps using your past to shame or punish you, it may be okay to step back.
