One Rejection Brought Back Every Insecurity I Thought I Had Beaten

By JugglingNothing on

I recently asked out someone I had liked for a while. We spent some time together, and I honestly thought there might be something between us. She eventually told me she didn’t feel the same way. I respected her decision because I know nobody owes me a relationship or feelings they don’t have. At first, I thought I was handling it pretty well. I didn’t argue, ask her to reconsider, or keep contacting her. I accepted the answer and tried to move on. But as the days passed, the rejection started affecting me more. My mind has turned one person’s decision into proof that I’m unattractive, unwanted, and somehow not good enough for anyone. I keep replaying our conversations and wondering what I said wrong. I know rejection doesn’t determine my worth, but knowing that logically hasn’t stopped it from hurting. The hardest part isn’t losing the possibility of dating her. It’s how quickly this brought back every negative belief I thought I had worked through. Has rejection ever made your depression or insecurities worse?
