Lying in bed for hours while my brain won’t shut up is ruining my nights
By Charlotte on
I’m starting to think overthinking is the main reason I can’t sleep. Almost every night, I do what I’m “supposed” to do, I get into bed before midnight, lights off, phone down, trying to be responsible. And then… nothing. I just lie there.
My body feels tired, but my mind decides it’s the perfect time to replay conversations, worry about the future, analyze random decisions from years ago, and create problems that don’t even exist yet. One thought turns into ten, and before I know it, hours have passed.
I’ll check the time and it’s 2 or 4 a.m., and that realization makes it worse. Now I’m stressed about how little sleep I’m going to get, how rough tomorrow will be, and how this cycle keeps repeating. The pressure to fall asleep becomes its own kind of anxiety.
What frustrates me most is that I want to sleep. I’m not scrolling or partying or doing anything productive. I’m just stuck in my own head, wide awake, while the rest of the world is quiet.
Then morning comes, I feel drained and foggy, and I tell myself tonight will be different. But when night hits, it’s the same routine all over again.
