I tried foot oil massage for sleep and it helped more than I expected

I’ve been dealing with inconsistent sleep for a while, and I’ve tried a bunch of common things like cutting screen time, changing my routine, and even meditation. Some helped a little, but nothing felt consistent. Recently I came across something simple that I honestly didn’t expect much from: oil massage, especially on the feet. The idea comes from Ayurvedic practice, where foot massage is used as part of calming the body and reducing stress before sleep. The reasoning is that the feet have a lot of nerve endings, and gentle massage with oil can help relax the nervous system and improve circulation. I decided to try it mostly out of curiosity. Nothing complicated, just a few minutes before bed with a basic herbal oil and a slow massage on the soles of the feet. What I noticed wasn’t instant sleep, but a clear shift in how my body felt. It was like my system slowed down. Less tension, less mental noise, and a more relaxed state that made it easier to drift off compared to nights when I just jumped straight into bed. I wouldn’t say it’s a cure for insomnia or anything dramatic like that, but as part of a wind-down routine it actually makes sense. It forces you to slow down physically, and that alone can signal your body that it’s time to rest. If you’re someone who struggles with a racing mind at night or general stress before bed, this might be worth trying. It’s simple, low effort, and doesn’t involve screens or supplements. Sometimes the smallest physical routines make more difference than we expect.
