Got fired after burning out and I’m still trying to process It

By Real Ray C on

I got fired from my job recently, and I’m still sitting with it. On paper, it looks sudden. In reality, it feels like burnout finally caught up with me.

I’d been running on empty for months. Struggling to focus, missing small details, falling behind, then working twice as hard to “make up for it.” I kept telling myself to push through, that if I just tried harder I’d get back on track. Instead, everything got heavier. My brain felt fried, my motivation disappeared, and the anxiety got louder every day.

When they let me go, part of me was shocked. Another part of me wasn’t surprised at all. I was exhausted in a way sleep didn’t fix.

Right now I’m dealing with the mix of emotions shame, relief, fear about what’s next, and frustration that burnout isn’t something workplaces really recognize until it’s too late. It’s hard not to feel like I failed, even though I know ADHD + nonstop pressure is a rough combo.
