How can I support my friend after a food comment shook their confidence?

I’m sharing this with my friend’s permission.
My friend has been working hard on eating disorder recovery. Recently, they finished their lunch at work and felt quietly proud of that moment.
Then a coworker commented on how much they had eaten. They probably didn’t realize the impact, but the comment stayed with my friend and made them question something that had felt like progress.
My friend is trying to remind themselves that eating enough is nothing to feel guilty about. They’re also practicing speaking to themselves with the same kindness they would offer someone they care about.
I suggested discussing the experience with someone on their recovery team and using a gentle boundary if it happens again: “I’d rather not talk about my food or body.”
