I feel helpless watching my little brother get caught up in drugs

By Eli Mercer on

I don’t even know where to start. I love my brother, but lately I’ve been seeing him spiral, and I feel like I’m losing him. He’s still young, but he’s started experimenting with drugs, and it scares the hell out of me. I see the change in him mood swings, secretive behavior, skipping school, ignoring responsibilities. It’s like he’s slowly disappearing, and I don’t know how to pull him back.

I’ve tried talking to him, trying to explain how dangerous this is, how it could ruin his future, but it’s like the words don’t land. He brushes me off or just laughs it off. Part of me wants to yell, to force him to stop, but I know that won’t work. I feel completely powerless, and it’s breaking me inside to see him like this.

I keep asking myself, what’s the best way to actually stop kids from getting into drugs? I know some people say education, strong family bonds, supportive environments, but watching it happen in real life is different. Sometimes I think maybe he’s looking for escape, or acceptance, or just curiosity, and I don’t know how to compete with that.

I just needed to get this out. I love him, and I want him safe, but I feel like I’m failing him. It’s painful to watch someone you love make choices that could destroy them, and I don’t know how much longer I can just stand by.
