My friend is three weeks off cocaine, but alcohol keeps pulling him back

By Real Ray C on

A close friend of mine is young, still in school, and trying to quit cocaine. He’s three weeks sober, but whenever he drinks, the cravings become almost impossible to ignore. Because he hasn’t experienced a serious health scare, part of him still believes he can control it. Sometimes he focuses more on passing drug tests than addressing the addiction, even though he knows that won’t solve anything. He’s afraid to tell his parents and isn’t ready for formal treatment. I want to support him without judging or controlling him. For anyone who has experienced this, did avoiding alcohol help during early recovery? What got you through the strongest cravings? Please don’t share drug-test tricks. I’m looking for honest advice that could help him stay sober.
