Just got diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy… Trying to stay on track

By JugglingNothing on

I found out about a month ago that I have diabetic retinopathy, and honestly, it shook me a bit. My eye doctor explained it in a way that stuck with me. He said it’s kind of 50 percent a problem and 50 percent not, meaning it’s there, but I still have a real chance to slow it down or keep it from getting worse if I get my diabetes under control. Since that day, I’ve been taking it seriously. I’ve changed my diet, started tracking what I eat, and I’m paying close attention to my numbers. For the past few weeks, my blood sugar has been pretty steady. The highest I’ve seen is around 180, and it hasn’t gone above that, which is a big improvement for me. I’m doing everything I can, but I’ll be honest, it’s still stressful. Knowing it can affect your vision makes it feel more real than ever. At the same time, I’m trying to stay focused on what I *can* control. Better eating, consistency, and just staying disciplined day by day. I guess I’m posting here to hear from others who’ve been through this. If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy, did getting your blood sugar under control actually help slow it down? What changes made the biggest difference for you? Trying to stay positive and keep going.
