The best video game for my child with CP wasn't the one we expected

By Charlotte on

When my child first got interested in video games, I assumed the most popular games would be the best place to start. I quickly realized that wasn't true. Some were simply too frustrating to enjoy. The biggest lesson we learned was that the best game is the one that matches your child's abilities. Not every child with CP enjoys the same types of games. Finding the right fit matters more than following trends. We had the most success with games that used simple controls and allowed kids to play at their own pace. Once the frustration disappeared, confidence started to grow. Every small win felt like a big accomplishment. An occupational therapist can also be a great resource. They may suggest adaptive controllers, accessibility settings, or other tools that make gaming easier. Sometimes a small adjustment changes everything. At the end of the day, gaming should be fun. The goal isn't to beat everyone else. It's to find something your child looks forward to playing again tomorrow. What game or app has been a surprise favorite for your child?
