Flying doesn't scare everyone but if it scares you, you're not alone

For years, flying was one of the biggest sources of anxiety in my life.
The strange part is that I wasn't afraid every day. I was fine until a trip came up. Then suddenly I'd start thinking about the flight nonstop.
Once I got on the plane, every little thing seemed to grab my attention. A strange sound. A bit of turbulence. Even the feeling of being thousands of feet in the air was enough to make my mind spiral.
What made it worse was feeling trapped. I couldn't just step outside for fresh air or leave the situation if I felt overwhelmed.
That's what anxiety does. It takes uncertainty and turns it into a hundred worst-case scenarios.
One thing that helped me was realizing how common flight anxiety actually is. So many people experience it, even people who travel regularly.
I also learned that flight attendants are there to help. If you're struggling, tell them. You're not being annoying, and you're definitely not the first anxious passenger they've helped.
Over time, I stopped expecting myself to feel fearless. My goal became simply getting on the plane and allowing myself to be anxious without letting it stop me.
Some flights are still harder than others, but every time I fly, I remind myself that courage isn't the absence of fear.
Sometimes courage is boarding the plane while your anxiety is telling you not to.
If flying makes you anxious, you're not weak, and you're certainly not alone.
