One Small Change in How I Thought About Anxiety Made a Big Difference

By Real Ray C on

For a long time, I called it *my anxiety*. I never questioned those words until I realized they made anxiety feel like part of my identity. Eventually, I started thinking about it differently. Instead of saying, *"This is who I am,"* I began telling myself, *"This is something I'm experiencing."* That shift didn't make the anxiety disappear. But it reminded me that I am more than my anxious thoughts, panic attacks, or bad days. The more I stopped identifying with every anxious thought, the easier it became to step back and ask, *"Is this anxiety talking, or is this actually true?"* I'm still learning, and I still have difficult days. But anxiety no longer gets to define who I am. It's something I live with sometimes. It's not the whole story.
