I thought my anxiety was all in my head until I started listening to my body
By JugglingNothing on
For years, I thought every anxious feeling had to come from my thoughts. If I wasn't worrying about something, I couldn't understand why my anxiety was so intense.
Then I started noticing a pattern.
After a few nights of poor sleep, my anxiety was worse. If I skipped meals, didn't drink enough water, or went through a stressful week, I felt more on edge. It wasn't just what was happening in my mind; my body was struggling too.
That changed how I looked at anxiety.
I stopped asking, "Why can't I just calm down?" and started asking, "Is there something my body needs today?"
Getting better sleep, eating regular meals, staying hydrated, exercising, and managing stress didn't make my anxiety disappear. But they gave me a stronger foundation and made difficult days feel a little more manageable.
I also learned that if anxiety suddenly changes or becomes much more intense, it's worth checking in with a healthcare professional. Sometimes physical health issues can play a role, and it's important not to overlook them.
For me, managing anxiety isn't just about changing my thoughts. It's about taking care of my mind and my body, because they affect each other more than I ever realized.
