I Stopped Looking for One Thing That Would Fix My Anxiety
By Charlotte on
For the longest time, I kept looking for that one thing that would make my anxiety finally go away.
A new breathing exercise. A meditation video. A supplement. A different routine. Anything that promised to make me feel normal again.
Sometimes something helped for a little while, but the anxiety always seemed to come back.
Eventually I realized I was looking at it the wrong way.
Instead of trying to find one perfect solution, I started paying attention to the small things that seemed to make my anxiety easier to handle.
Getting enough sleep made a difference. Going for a walk helped clear my head. Eating regularly seemed to help when I was already feeling physically drained. I also started paying attention to how much caffeine I was having, especially on days when I was already stressed.
When my thoughts were going in circles, I'd sometimes write them down instead of letting everything stay in my head.
None of these things magically cured my anxiety.
They just gave me more ways to manage it.
And that's probably the biggest thing I've learned. Managing anxiety isn't necessarily about making sure you never feel anxious again. Sometimes it's about learning what helps you get through those difficult moments without letting them take over your entire day.
I've also had to learn that there's a point where self-help isn't enough. If anxiety is constantly interfering with your sleep, work, school, relationships, or everyday life, getting professional help isn't a failure. Sometimes you need more support than a walk or breathing exercise can provide.
I'm still figuring out what works for me.
But I'm no longer searching for one magical solution. I'm trying to build a life where anxiety doesn't get to make every decision for me.
