Has Anyone Else Felt Discouraged When the First Medication Didn’t Help?

By Charlotte on

It can be discouraging when you finally try medication for anxiety and it doesn’t help the way you hoped. Then you read that the same medication changed someone else’s life, and you start wondering whether anything will work for you. I’m learning that medication experiences can be very different. What helps one person may do little for another, and side effects can vary too. Sometimes finding the right treatment takes time, honest conversations, and a few adjustments with a healthcare provider. Keeping notes about changes in anxiety, sleep, mood, and side effects can make those conversations easier. Medication should not be stopped or changed without speaking with the prescriber. One unsuccessful attempt does not mean you failed. It simply means you and your provider may need to keep exploring.
