Why I do what I do
By YourChild.org on
This is why I do what I do.
Today wasn’t just about IEPs or strategy. It was about a mom who’s been through more than most… and still shows up for her child.
During our conversation, I noticed how often she said “I’m sorry.”
Not because she did anything wrong—but because life taught her to shrink.
So I told her:
Don’t apologize unless you’ve done something wrong.
You’re allowed to have a voice.
You’re allowed to take up space.
Especially when it comes to your child.
Her response left me speechless.
This work isn’t just about IEPs.
It’s about helping parents find their voice again.
Because when they do… everything changes for their child.

This is powerful!!
So many parents carry more than people ever see, and that habit of over-apologizing is something a lot of people have learned without even realizing it!
Reminders like this matter. Helping people feel confident in their voice, especially when advocating for their child, isn’t small work!!
Appreciate you sharing this and the impact you’re having!
