The school is not your child’s advocate

By YourChild.org on

The school is not your child’s advocate. Read that again. Many parents walk into meetings believing the school’s job is to get their child everything they need. Sometimes that happens. Sometimes it doesn’t. Schools have budgets. Staffing shortages. Competing priorities. Resource limitations. Your child’s needs are your responsibility to understand and advocate for. That’s not cynical. It’s reality. The parents who are most successful are usually the ones who stop assuming someone else is looking out for their child and start asking questions, requesting data, and actively participating in the process. Your child needs an advocate. Never assume someone else is filling that role. www.YourChild.org #IEP #SpecialEducation #Autism #ADHD #504Plan #SpecialEducationAdvocate #ParentAdvocate #IEPHelp #SpecialNeedsParenting #YourChild
