PLEASE STOP SIGNING DOCUMENTS YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND

PLEASE STOP SIGNING DOCUMENTS YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. I see parents do this all the time. They sign an IEP. They sign a consent form. They sign a settlement agreement. They sign paperwork at the end of a meeting. And later they tell me: “I didn’t really understand what I was agreeing to.” That’s a problem. If you don’t understand what a document says, stop. Ask questions. Take it home. Read it. Have someone review it with you. Because once you sign, the conversation often changes. Schools know most parents are overwhelmed. They know meetings move quickly. They know parents are tired and just want things resolved. That’s exactly why you should slow down. Never sign something simply because everyone else at the table wants you to. Sign it because you understand it and agree with it. Your signature matters. Use it carefully. www.YourChild.org #IEP #SpecialEducation #Autism #ADHD #504Plan #ParentAdvocate #SpecialEducationAdvocate #IEPHelp #SpecialNeedsParenting #YourChild
