Surviving the storm no one else can see
By Real Ray C on
Has anyone else experienced days like this?
Today felt like walking straight into a storm I couldn’t escape. Every sound was louder. Every light was brighter. Even the smallest things a tag in my shirt, a sudden movement, a voice too close felt sharp enough to cut right through me.
For a long time, I believed days like this didn’t “count.” I thought that unless I smiled, achieved, or looked like I was keeping up with the world, then the day was wasted. But here’s what I’ve learned: survival does count. Even when no one notices. Especially when no one notices.
Sometimes, making it through a day with meltdowns, shutdowns, or constant overstimulation feels like running a marathon no one else can see. And yet, here we are, still standing, still breathing, still trying.
I wonder if anyone else feels this too. Do you have days where simply surviving is the victory? And if so, how do you find your way through them?
For me, slowing my breath, giving myself permission to be messy and imperfect, and letting the day be what it is (instead of what I wish it was) helped me get through today.
