I never saw a future for myself… but life surprised me.

By JugglingNothing on

I used to wake up every day thinking, what’s even the point?

Early twenties. Living with my parents. They were stable enough to keep me afloat, and I’m grateful for that but I felt stuck. I had a part-time job, nothing fancy, just enough to fill some hours. Not enough to live on my own. Not enough to feel like I was doing life right.

I didn’t want kids. I couldn’t picture marriage. Honestly, I couldn’t even imagine functioning independently. The idea of managing bills, cooking, cleaning, socializing, it all felt impossible. I couldn’t see a version of adulthood that didn’t terrify me.

And the world didn’t help. The economy, the noise, the unpredictability — it all felt like too much. I thought I’d always be the person who couldn’t “keep up.”

But somehow… life still moved.
Slowly. Quietly.

I met someone who didn’t try to “fix” me. They just walked beside me. They didn’t push me to be “normal.” They let me exist at my own pace.

I started therapy. I learned to celebrate small victories answering a phone call without panicking, cooking a meal, going out without masking too much.

Now I’m married. Still autistic. Still me.
But I’ve learned that the future doesn’t have to look “normal” to be good.

We rent a small apartment. We have our routines. Some days are hard meltdowns still happen, shutdowns still happen but there’s laughter. There’s love. There’s peace.

And that peace? It’s something I never thought I’d find.

Sometimes, the future shows up quietly, in ways you never expected. 💙
