Should I be dating someone who thinks polygamy is in men’s nature? Advice needed 😩
By Eli Mercer on
I have been dating a guy for 2 months and something he said really bothered me.
We were talking about relationships and loyalty. He told me a story about a friend who cheated, and instead of calling the cheating wrong, he said the guy was lonely and stressed basically justifying it. Then he added that it’s “in men’s nature to want multiple partners” and that men sometimes cheat because they don’t know how to express their struggles.
I told him that sounded like excuses for cheating, but he kept cutting me off and saying I wasn’t listening to the whole story. His conclusion was that if a man cheats for pleasure, it’s wrong, but if he cheats because he’s hurting, women should be more understanding.
That made me feel really weird.
Like… what?? Cheating because you’re sad is suddenly okay?
He says he loves me, but his views on cheating and “men being naturally polygamous” feel like a huge red flag to me. Our values just don’t seem to match.
Am I overreacting?
Would this be a dealbreaker for you? I just need some outside perspective.
