From a woman’s perspective, here’s how to actually engage with us
By Charlotte on
I’ve said countless times that women can feel hard to understand, especially when you’re trying to figure out how to approach us in person. But honestly, most of us aren’t as complicated as we seem it’s usually about timing, respect, and reading the energy the right way.
As a woman, here’s the truth: we don’t mind being approached when it’s done with confidence, kindness, and zero pressure. What makes us uncomfortable is when a guy comes on too strong, doesn’t read social cues, or tries to force a conversation we didn’t ask for.
If you want to meet someone in person, the best thing you can do is be genuinely present. Make eye contact, smile, and see if she mirrors the energy back. If she seems open, a simple “Hey, I noticed you and wanted to say hi” goes much further than any pickup line.
About situations like a waitress looking at you or saying you can ask for her next time yes, sometimes that is her signaling interest. Not always, but if she seemed warm, kept checking in, and gave you a personal invitation, you absolutely could’ve tried something small like, “By the way, you seem really cool, would it be weird if I asked for your number?” When said casually and respectfully, it doesn’t put her on the spot.
And if bars and clubs aren’t your thing, that’s totally fine. Try places with natural conversation starters: bookstores, coffee shops, gyms, volunteer events, cooking classes, church groups, or hobby-based meetups. Women love men who show up in places that reflect effort, growth, and genuine interests.
The biggest key? Don’t approach us with the mindset of “I need to score a date.” Come in with curiosity instead: “Let me get to know this person and see if we connect.” Women can feel the difference instantly.
You wanting marriage and kids someday is great but start by building confidence in simple interactions. Be warm. Be respectful. Be self-aware. Those three things alone put you ahead of most guys out here.
Hope this helps some of you who feel stuck. Happy to answer questions if you’ve got them.
