Dating and sex, trying to figure out where I stand in today’s world
By JugglingNothing on
Dating lately has made me think a lot about sex and timing especially how different things feel now compared to how I was raised.
Growing up, sex was framed as something serious. Maybe not always marriage-first in practice, but definitely tied to commitment and trust. Dating felt slower. You got to know someone before things turned physical.
Now, dating feels faster and more expectation-heavy. I’ve been on dates where the conversation was great, but once things didn’t move toward sex quickly, I could feel interest fade. That’s been confusing and discouraging. Not because I don’t want intimacy, but because I need emotional safety and clarity first.
Personally, I struggle with unspoken rules. When is it “expected”? What does it mean if we do or don’t? Those questions run constantly in my head during dating. Sex isn’t casual for me, it’s connected to trust. Moving too fast makes me shut down.
I don’t think sex before or after marriage is the real issue. For me, it’s about intention and communication. I’ve learned I have to be upfront about my boundaries, even if it makes dating harder.
