Valentine’s aftermath: If you didn’t get flowers, you’re still worth loving

By Eli Mercer on

Valentine’s Day was Saturday, Feb 14, and now that it’s over, I just want to say this out loud for anyone who needs to hear it.

I didn’t get a gift this year either. No surprise date, no card, no last-minute “thinking of you” text. And yeah, it stung more than I expected. I tried to brush it off, told myself it was “just another day,” but let’s be real Valentine’s Day has a way of poking old wounds, especially if you’re dating, hoping, or trying to believe that love will eventually show up for you.

Some people are in relationships that look great online but feel lonely in real life. Some people get gifts and still feel unseen. And some of us are single, dating, or in situationships that didn’t come through that doesn’t define our value.

If anything, Valentine’s Day is information. It shows you effort levels. It shows you priorities. And sometimes, it quietly tells you who isn’t meeting you where you are.

So if this weekend passed and you’re feeling a little heavy, be gentle with yourself. Buy your own flowers. Order the dessert. Take yourself seriously, even if someone else didn’t.

Love doesn’t expire because February 14 came and went. And your story isn’t late, it’s still unfolding.
