This old pc game collection is pure nostalgia and it makes me miss gaming back then

These big box PC games were everything. Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Baldur’s Gate, Half-Life, Quake, Duke Nukem, Fallout, Monkey Island, Civilization… just stacked up like a shrine to late nights and lost weekends.

Back then, getting a new game felt like an event. You’d open the box, flip through a thick manual, read the lore before even installing it. Installs took forever, discs had to be swapped, and if something didn’t work, you were on your own trying to figure it out. No day-one patches. No “hotfix coming tomorrow.” What you bought was what you got.

There was also something satisfying about *owning* games physically. Seeing those boxes on a shelf made it feel real, like a collection you earned over time. Each one represented dozens (or hundreds) of hours of getting stuck, figuring things out, and being totally immersed.

Modern gaming is great in a lot of ways, but sometimes I miss when games shipped finished, took risks, and weren’t built around live services, seasons, or monetization loops. It felt more personal. More focused on the experience.
