Mobile gaming is way better than people give it credit for

I used to think mobile gaming was just time-killer stuff. A few puzzle games, maybe something to play while waiting in line, and that was it. Then one weekend I downloaded Call of Duty: Mobile out of boredom and accidentally spent half the night playing ranked matches with friends.
That’s when it really clicked for me some Android games are legitimately good now. Not “good for mobile.” Just good games, period.
Call of Duty: Mobile still surprises me with how polished it feels. The controls are smooth, matches are fast, and it somehow manages to feel close to a console shooter without becoming frustrating on a phone screen. The fact that it supports controllers makes it even easier to sink time into.
PUBG Mobile is another one that completely changed how people look at mobile gaming. The scale of the matches is crazy for a phone game. You can jump in for a quick session and suddenly realize an hour disappeared because your squad kept saying “one more match.”
Then you’ve got games like AFK Arena, which are the opposite vibe entirely. It’s one of those games you casually check throughout the day, but after a while you realize you’ve spent weeks optimizing teams and collecting heroes without even noticing.
Raid: Shadow Legends deserves a mention too. The monetization gets criticized a lot fairly, honestly, but visually it’s one of the most impressive RPGs on Android. There’s a ridiculous amount of content once you get deeper into it.
I think mobile gaming gets dismissed because people still picture the app stores from like 2012. But phones are strong enough now that some of these games have massive communities, competitive scenes, and production quality that would’ve been impossible on mobile years ago.
Curious what everyone else thinks. What Android game completely surprised you once you actually gave it a chance?
