Would You Turn Off Your PlayStation for a Week to Protest Sony?

By Real Ray C on

Something unusual is happening in the PlayStation community this week. A group of gamers has started the #PSBlackout, asking players to avoid PlayStation logins, purchases, and gaming from August 23 through August 30. The protest is mainly about Sony's reported plan to end physical PlayStation disc production starting in 2028. I can understand why some gamers are concerned. Digital games are convenient, but physical copies can be resold, traded, lent, collected, and kept for years. The bigger question is whether gamers are comfortable moving toward a future where buying a game increasingly means buying access to a digital ecosystem rather than owning something tangible. I'm not sure a one-week blackout will change Sony's plans, especially given PlayStation's enormous user base. But it does show that some players aren't ready to give up physical games quietly. Would you actually participate in the PS Blackout for a week? Or do you think physical games are becoming obsolete anyway?
